In McCain’s own words: attack ads don’t fool voters

Remember eight years ago, when John McCain found himself the target of relentless negative ad attacks?  The folks over at the DNC do, and they’ve got a new ad out to remind Mr. McCain what he said back then:

“Uh, I, I just have to rely on the good judgment of the voters not to buy into these negative attack ads. Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don’t have much of a vision for the future or you’re not ready to articulate it.”

Ironically, according to a top McCain strategist, McCain finds himself in just that position in 2008.

“It’s a dangerous road, but we have no choice,” a top McCain strategist told the Daily News. “If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we’re going to lose.”

According to a new analysis of McCain and Obama’s ad buys, McCain is spending “virtually 100%” of his advertising resources on ads attacking Barack Obama.  Obama is spending less than half of his advertising dollars attacking McCain.
